A player for CF Montreal has had his contract terminated by Major League Soccer after he registered to play in an amateur league under a false name – and was then suspended for punching an opponent.
As was first reported by Quebec sports blog Dans Les Coulisses, Argentine forward Matko Miljevic was found to have been using a false name and playing in the Ligue Québécoise de Soccer Calcetto (QCSL) due to his frustration over a lack of game time.
This is in direct violation of his contract, and Major League Soccer announced on Monday that they terminated Miljevic’s deal following an investigation.
Reports say that during a game in the QCSL, Miljevic got in a confrontation with an opposing player, where he allegedly spat at a player and then ‘struck’ them in the face.
Miljevic was banned for life from the league and at the time of the initial report, the victim in the incident was considering filing charges.

Miljevic arrived in 2021 but has only featured in 45 matches – including just ten this season
According to Dans Les Coulisses, Miljevic joined the league after a good friend of his invited him to join.
In three matches, he scored six goals and two assists – however six of those eight goal contributions came from the same match.
Once league officials realized that Miljevic was playing under a false name, they told him that he had to play under his real name if he wanted to continue playing.
Since joining Montreal from Argentinos Juniors’ reserve team on a free transfer, Miljevic has only featured in 45 matches – scoring three goals and four assists.
This season, he’s played in only ten matches – eight in MLS and two in the Canadian Championship. Miljevic only managed an assist and two yellow cards in 183 minutes of total match play.
