Nick Kyrgios has admitted that he has “unfinished business” at Wimbledon after reaching the final in 2022. The 28-year-old has played just one match this season as he has been battling an ongoing knee injury. But Kyrgios is still keen to return and win at least one Grand Slam singles title before he retires, with his sights set on SW19.
Kyrgios enjoyed a career-best season in 2022, highlighted by an appearance in his first Major singles final at Wimbledon where he lost to Novak Djokovic. He also picked up a seventh career singles title in Washington and tasted doubles success with Thanasi Kokkinakis – winning the Australian Open men’s doubles title and qualifying for the ATP Finals.
It has been a different story for the Australian this year as he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in January and has played just one match all year, losing to Wu Yibing in Stuttgart. Kyrgios’ troublesome knee has kept him out for the rest of the season, while he also picked up a wrist injury.
But the seven-time title winner is still eager to mount a comeback as he sets his sights on winning a Grand Slam singles title, having been two sets away at Wimbledon last summer. “I want to just be able to say I won one Grand Slam, singles, before I retire,” Kyrgios told Wide World of Sports.

“I think that’s really driving me. I was so close, I was two sets away. I guess that’s what’s driving me.” And there is one Major tournament in particular that the 28-year-old wants to win.
He continued: “Wimbledon’s the biggest tournament in the world – I think tennis fans that don’t know tennis know what Wimbledon is. It’s just got that prestige. It’s like the pinnacle of tennis to me. If you win Wimbledon, no one can kind of say anything to you almost.”
Having reached the final at the All England Club already, Kyrgios has marked Wimbledon on his card and feels as though he has unfinished business at the tournament. “That would be the one that has a little asterisk on it and that’s the one I will put all my focus and diligence into,” he added.

“That’s the one I want to win and I was really close and I said I’ve still got that taste in my mouth of unfinished business. So I’m gonna try my best to get back there.” Kyrgios had been hoping to return to Wimbledon this summer after making a losing comeback in Stuttgart.
He travelled to London and completed his pre-tournament media duties but ended up pulling out before his opening match and has not played since. While Kyrgios’ return date remains uncertain, he will be taking on a new role as a commentator for the upcoming ATP Finals on Tennis Channel.
