Man Utd players' feelings towards Jadon Sancho after latest Erik ten Hag spat
Scott McTominay believes his late growth spurt suggests he may enter his peak years later than the usual footballer amid his uncertain Manchester United future. The 26-year-old claims he feels four years younger and is still way off his prime, which could prompt a transfer rethink at Old Trafford.
McTominay was infamously smaller than most of his teammates as he progressed through United’s youth ranks before rapidly growing into the 6ft 4 midfielder he is today.
Jose Mourinho handed the Scotland international his senior debut in May 2017, and he has since made 211 appearances for the Red Devils.
But Erik ten Hag was willing to offload him during the summer transfer window as he targeted two new midfielders. United set their asking price at £40million, which no club met.
McTominay has indirectly warned his manager that it would be a mistake to let him leave in the near future.
The United No 39 is convinced he will hit his peak years after the common age, indicating that the best is yet to come amid interest in his signature.

“The way I see it now is that I grew maybe four years after everyone else, so my peak years are going to be four years later, too,” McTominay told club media.
“So I’m 26 now, and my body age is technically like a 22-year-old. When I’m 30, I might feel like a 26-year-old. I might retire at 38 or 40!”
He added: “My dad was brilliant because he would always say: ‘Just take your time, son. You’re going to grow, and you’re going to get bigger,’ because he knows, doesn’t he?
“As a kid, you don’t know that. And you always think: I’m always the latest one. But then, when I did grow, when I was 17 or 18, I was sat next to him, and I was above him.

“I was like: ‘What’s going on here? Four years ago, you were saying to me not to worry, and now look.’ I’d be thinking to myself: ‘I’m bigger than my dad, and he’s 6ft 2in!’ So it’s crazy in that respect.”
McTominay is yet to start for United this season, coming off the bench in home wins against Wolves and Nottingham Forest.
And Sofyan Amrabat’s deadline-day arrival will only limit his opportunity for minutes further after Mason Mount completed a £60million move from Chelsea earlier in the summer.
McTominay could leave Old Trafford as early as January if a suitable offer arrives. But his comments may force Ten Hag to rethink his current role.
