What has gone wrong at Man Utd?
Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed Marcus Rashford apologised to him after holding a private conversation with the under-fire star. Rashford has been heavily criticised after he was spotted out partying in Manchester hours after their heavy 3-0 defeat to Manchester City last Sunday and while Ten Hag said the club will deal with the matter ‘internally’, he suggested that the struggling star will get a chance to redeem himself.
The 25-year-old has seen his form fall off a cliff this season and with the club in a dire situation on the pitch after back-to-back 3-0 defeats to City and Newcastle respectively. And Rashford’s decision to go out for a night on the town, as reported by The Telegraph, was met with anger from Ten Hag, who blasted the forward’s actions and subsequently received a grovelling apology.
It seems to have done the trick, however, as the Dutchman hinted he may allow Rashford to prove himself with a start in their must-win game against Fulham on Saturday lunchtime.
Asked about Rashford’s party, Ten Hag told reporters: “Yes, I’m aware of it. I spoke with him about it. It’s unacceptable. I told him, he apologised and that’s it. For us, it’s an internal matter.”

It’s not the first time Rashford has been reprimanded by Ten Hag for stepping out of line. He was benched for a Premier League game at Wolves last season after it emerged he had been late to a team meeting because he overslept. On that occasion, he came off the bench to score the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win.
But unlike then, Ten Hag can ill-afford to lose one of his key players in a must-win clash at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Rashford scored 30 goals in all competitions last season and while he is currently out of form, with just one goal in 10 Premier League games, Rashford’s value to the team means dropping him would represent a massive call.
And the 53-year-old dropped a hint that he would give the England international a chance to get back in his good books after his ‘mistake’, as he made a point to praise Rashford’s work in training this week to make amends.

“He’s fitting in, he’s very motivated to put things right. I know how much effort he is putting in,” Ten Hag added. “He’s totally with us. So he makes a mistake, but that doesn’t mean he’s not fitting in. I see him every day in training, what he’s doing, so I know.
“He makes one mistake but also, off the pitch, I see what he’s doing, how he lives and I’m sure he’s doing everything right to help the team and to perform and to let us win.”
After a poor run of form including eight defeats in 15 games, Ten Hag swatted away questions about his future when he was quizzed on being sacked by the club.
Instead, the former Ajax tactician replied: “Sometimes you have difficult periods but when you stick together – and we are together – then you come through those difficult periods.”
