Erik ten Hag not happy with decisions in the game with Arsenal
Jadon Sancho is set for showdown talks with Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag amid calls for him to shape up or ship out of the club. The winger’s reaction to criticism of his efforts in training from the Dutchman has left the two at loggerheads.
It prompted former United defender Rio Ferdinand to suggest Sancho now faces months on the bench or a last-ditch switch to Saudi Arabia. But United bosses expect Ten Hag to let Sancho know his outburst was unacceptable with the £300,000-a-week forward set to be fined by the club.
Sancho, 23, suggested there were other factors than his training performance that he was unwilling to explain why he has not started a game this season. It is believed the winger feels Antony, who Ten Hag spent £85million to bring from Ajax in August last year, is being favoured by the manager despite indifferent displays.
But Ferdinand believes whatever the reasons Sancho has backed himself into a corner with only two possible exit routes – one to sit on the bench all season or the other to seek a sharp exit to Saudi Arabia’s megabucks Pro League. “There is no way Jadon is putting out a statement like that if he hasn’t, in his own eyes, performed well (in training). That’s the difference as well,” he said.

“On his chart it might be that I’ve trained alright but the manager might have a different standard. There’s only one way this ends right now, or two ways.
“There is only one window open and that’s Saudi, or you’re on the bench, or you’re not getting in the squad for the rest of the season.” United refused to comment further on Sancho’s outburst standing behind Ten Hag’s comments at the Emirates after the defeat to Arsenal.
But the pair are likely to sit down at Carrington this week in an effort to seek a way out of the spat. Sancho had said in his social media statement: “Please don’t believe everything you read! I have conducted myself in training very well this week. I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won’t get into, I’ve been a scapegoat for a long time which isn’t fair!

“All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so, which I know every week is a challenge.
“I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what.” That came after Ten Hag had said: “Jadon, on his performances in training we did not select him. You have to reach a level every day at Manchester United and we can make choices in the front line. So for this game he was not selected.”
