Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou said he has never been a fan of VAR after their 2-1 win over Liverpool
Linda Pizzuti, the wife of Liverpool and Fenway Sports Group’s principal owner John W. Henry, has given her take on the VAR controversy surrounding the Reds during their 2-1 defeat at Tottenham. Luis Diaz wrongly had a goal disallowed for offside as the PGMOL have since apologised amid intense rage and backlash, especially on social media.
Supporters have questioned the officials in charge, who have since been dropped from duties on Sunday and Monday while there has been scrutiny over both VAR Darren England and assistant VAR Dan Cook officiating in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday evening, just 48 hours before Liverpool’s trip to north London.
England and Cook made a “significant human error” when failing to overturn an incorrect offside decision, despite being aware that Diaz was onside at the time as they believed that the on-field call was onside, even though the linesman had flagged for offside.
Liverpool released a club statement confirming that they would be exploring a “rage of options available” as they felt that “escalation” was necessary after the incorrect decision, before Pizzuti took to Instagram to share her opinion.

She wrote, in a post which now appears to have been deleted: “Two red cards makes me wonder again if I just don’t understand red cards. A disallowed beautiful goal. And yet Liverpool fought brilliantly to the very end, with just nine, when a last second goal put Tottenham ahead – the first loss for LFC this season.”
Diogo Jota’s wife then added more fuel to the fire on Instagram, showcasing the incident when her husband was shown his first yellow card as she wrote: “This was given as a yellow card” accompanied by several laughing emojis and one large clown emoji.

Liverpool learn how long Cody Gakpo will be out for as injury setback detailed[LATEST]
On Sunday evening, Liverpool released a statement calling for clarity as they look to escalate the situation. “Liverpool Football Club acknowledges PGMOL’s admission of their failures last night. It is clear that the correct application of the laws of the game did not occur, resulting in sporting integrity being undermined,” the statement read.
It added: “This is vital for the reliability of future decision-making as it applies to all clubs with learnings being used to make improvements to processes in order to ensure this kind of situation cannot occur again. In the meantime, we will explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution.”
Adding further insult to injury, Liverpool are also facing the prospect of paying a £25,000 fine to the FA after receiving six cautions in the game. Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Virgil van Dijk all picked up bookings, whilst assistant manager Peter Krawietz also went into the book in addition to red cards for Curtis Jones and Jota in a game that everyone associated with Liverpool are clearly frustrated with.
The 23/24 home shirt for Liverpool pays homage to the past of the club, as well as collaborator Nike, with a strong 1970s influence. The iconic red, capped with bold white cuffs and collar really does invoke that classic Liverpool FC style while adding a cool retro touch
