Rasmus Hojlund has no interest in being compared to Erling Haaland – but insists he knows his worth after his big-money move to Manchester United this summer.
The United striker is preparing for his first taste of a Manchester derby this weekend when Erik ten Hag’s side host the defending champions. There will no doubt be comparisons between the two Scandinavian strikers in both sides ahead of Sunday’s showdown.
But while Hojlund is a man who possesses confidence way beyond his 20 years, he’s not foolish enough to think he’s at Norwegian Haaland’s level yet. “I’ve said many times, I don’t want to be compared to him,” said Hojlund.

“He is incredible and probably the best striker in the world right now. We can keep that on the low for now, but I hope I can improve and then we will see what I am capable of.”
There is certainly plenty of hope around Old Trafford about how good Hojlund can become. The Danish striker has scored three goals in Europe so far but his play on and off the ball has got everyone at United excited about his potential.

He came with a big fee for a player yet to really prove it at the highest level as United forked out £64m to Atalanta in the summer in a deal which could rise to £72m.
Hojlund, who played against his brother Oscar in United’s 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen on Tuesday night, is not someone who looks one bit bothered by the big money spent on him. “I know my worth,” he said.
“I know I have to perform every day because I play for Manchester United. In the end, I am only 20 years old and I am not the finished article yet.
“I still have a lot to improve and I am getting there slowly. I reckon I have had a fine start to the season and now we have to keep building and the goals will come in the Premier League.”
It’s been a remarkable rise for the player who left FC Copenhagen in 2022 to join Sturm Graz for just £1.5m. "It has gone fast, but I have always had the self belief and I want to improve every day, and that is the reason why I am here,” said Hojlund.
“Hopefully I can keep my streak going upwards.” Hojlund would love nothing more than his first Premier League goal to come against neighbours City this weekend.
Boyhood fan Hojlund, 20, grew up watching the clash and was wowed by Wayne Rooney’s overhead in 2011 to win the game. The Dane added: “Everybody remembers that, don’t they?
“It would be a big experience [to get first goal], so I am looking forward to it. It is always special to play a rival and if we win the game, we can get closer to the top, so it would be nice.”
