Galatasaray ultras send out message ahead of Man Utd clash in Champions League

Galatasaray’s ultras have told their fans to ‘go to war’ during their crunch Champions League clash against Manchester United on Wednesday night.

The Turkish giants are renowned for their hostile, aggressive and often volatile atmospheres. And it’s a place where English clubs have not enjoyed coming over the years; Arsenal are the only English outfit to win away at Galatasaray this century.

Gala’s fanbase will be looking to pile the pressure on Erik ten Hag and his players in what is set to be a decisive night in the Champions League. A win on the night for the hosts would end United’s chances of qualifying for the knockout stages and keep their own hopes of making it through Group A in their own hands as they play Copenhagen in the final group game.

A message from firm UltrAslan told fellow supporters there is absolutely no social media or phones allowed in the stands whilst the game is being played. Telling their fans: "90 minutes of aggressive support. Go to war with the team!"

The firm also asked fans to behave accordingly, and to not throw any objects onto the field of play. Galatasaray will definitely be bringing the battle on the pitch, and United still have scars from the infamous ‘Welcome to Hell’ night at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium in 1993.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s Premier League champions were eliminated in the ferocious atmosphere of the Ali Sami Yen that night. The stadium has since been rebuilt into a modern 52,280 capacity stadium, but the night could still be just as long for United.

Their hosts are currently 2nd in the Super Lig table as a title race for the ages looks to be unfolding between themselves and Istanbul rivals Fenerbahce. Both sides are level on points and nine clear of Besiktas in 3rd. By contrast, United’s failing season showed signs of life against Everton on Sunday.

Following their worst ever start in the Premier League era, United are incredibly the league’s form side – winning five of their last six games in the top flight despite their hefty injury concerns.

But their costly 4-3 defeat away at Copenhagen last time out in Europe has left Ten Hag and his players at the last chance saloon in the competition, and in need of three points against Galatasaray.
