Sheffield United are investigating women’s first team manager Jonathan Morgan after a formal complaint was made about his alleged behaviour.

Mail Sport can reveal that Morgan has agreed to step away from matches and training while the club looks into issues raised over his conduct.

The manager was not on the touchline for the Blades’ 4-0 defeat at Birmingham, last week’s Continental League Cup tie with Sunderland and the Blades’ 3-1 victory over London City Lionesses earlier this month.

Assistant coach Luke Turner has been in charge since Morgan stepped away from his duties. His last match was the 1-0 victory over Lewes in September.

Morgan, who was previously manager of Burnley and Leicester, was appointed Sheffield United boss in February after the departure of Neil Redfearn.

Mail Sport understands concerns have been raised about his alleged treatment of certain squad members and that a formal complaint was lodged earlier this month.

Sheffield United and representatives for Morgan did not respond when approached for comment.

Morgan spent seven years with Leicester and took the club from the fourth tier to the Women’s Super League before being dismissed in November 2021.

He was appointed manager of Burnley in May 2022 and went 16 games unbeaten before leaving for Sheffield United earlier this year.

The last four weeks have been extremely difficult for the club following the passing of vice-captain Maddy Cusack.

Cusack, 27, died at her home address in Derbyshire on September 20. At the time, Derbyshire Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Cusack, who also worked for the club’s commercial department as a marketing executive, was Sheffield United’s longest-serving female player and the first to reach 100 appearances.

Several tributes were paid to Cusack, who also worked for the club’s commercial department

In a tribute posted on the club’s official website on September 21 announcing the news of her death, Sheffield United chief executive Stephen Bettis said: ‘This is heart-breaking news for everyone at Bramall Lane.

‘Maddy had a unique position of being part of a number of teams at Sheffield United and was popular with everyone that she came into contact with.

‘Her personality and professionalism made her a credit to her family – she will be sadly missed.

‘While taking in the news and moving forward, the club will offer as much support as possible to Maddy’s family, friends and colleagues.’
