Wataru Endo should have been sent off against Toulouse in the Europa League, argued former Liverpool stars Joe Cole and Rachel Brown-Finnis.

The Liverpool midfielder was already on a yellow card when he dove in on Cristian Casseres Jr. just before the break.

Endo got none of the ball and could have been shown a second yellow for what was a reckless challenge.

Cole told TNT Sports: ‘Endo should’ve been sent off.’

Finnis-Brown said: ‘I’d be shocked if Endo walks out in the second half. If it is, it’s a real test of can he hold his discipline.

Wataru Endo could have received a second yellow card for a challenge on Cristian Casseres Jr.

Joe Cole believes that the Liverpool midfielder should have been sent off for his foul

Rachel Brown-Finnis felt that his challenge on Casseres was similar to how Marcus Rashford was sent off against Copenhagen

‘ We saw Rashford sent off last night for something very similar shielding the ball. This is a yellow. He’s already been booked. He should be off the pitch – it was cynical [his foul].’

Endo was, it turns out, substituted at the break as Jurge Klopp made three changes.

Endo was replaced by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai came on for Konstantinos Tsimikas, and Mohamed Salah was introduced for Ben Doak as the Reds chased the game.

Liverpool were 1-0 down going into the break after Aron Donnum and saw the deficit doubled before the hour mark after Thijs Dallinga scored.

An own goal from Casseres after 73 minutes provided hope before Frank Magri instantly responded to restore Toulouse’s two-goal advantage.

An 89th-minute goal by Diogo Jota set up a lively finish, with Jarrell Quansah’s late equaliser being ruled out controversially after VAR judged Alexis MacAllister to have handled the ball.
