David Moyes warns West Ham NOT to underestimate Backa Topola

David Moyes warns his West Ham stars NOT to underestimate Backa Topola… despite Serbian minnows hosting Europa League clash in just a 4,500 capacity stadium

  • West Ham go into Thursday’s clash against Backa Topola as heavy favourites
  • David Moyes is taking nothing for granted with no easy games in the tournament
  • It’s ridiculous to see Steve Cooper under pressure at Nottingham Forest. He’s been the best since Brian Clough – It’s All Kicking Off

David Moyes says West Ham will not make the mistake of underestimating Backa Topola when they walk out at the TSC Arena, a minute stadium with a 4,500 capacity.

The Hammers can stay top of the Europa League’s Group A by beating the Serbian minnows on Thursday evening.

Yet Moyes insists they cannot be lulled into a false sense of security just because the ground holds fewer fans than most of those in England’s National League.

‘We respect all the opponents we play,’ Moyes said on Wednesday night in Serbia.

‘We come here to try to win. A small stadium in comparison, but the pitch looks good. I find every game in Europe difficult. Nothing is easy.

‘Obviously we’re fully aware of the very good result they had at the weekend (a 4-0 away win over Serbian SuperLiga leaders Partizan). They played very well at the London Stadium.’

Topola took the lead in the reverse fixture, though ultimately lost 3-1 after two goals from Mohammed Kudus and one from Tomas Soucek.

Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio have not travelled for Thursday’s tie with West Ham fans calling for Divin Mubama – the 19-year-old academy prospect – to get the nod ahead of Danny Ings up front.
