Chelsea must not sign Victor Osimhen or any other striker in the January transfer window, according to William Gallas. The Frenchman claims the recent form of Nicolas Jackson has proven that he deserves at least the remainder of the season to show he’s got what it takes.
Chelsea are widely reported to want to recruit in attack. Napoli star Osimhen is a top target, while Brentford’s banned forward Ivan Toney is also high on their radar.
Scoring goals have been an issue for the Stamford Bridge club across the last couple of seasons. The likes of Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have both had failed spells in west London.
Jackson was signed for £32million early in the summer from Villarreal. He finished last season in good form in Spain but hasn’t got the record of goals behind him as other strikers in Europe.
A poor start to the season at Chelsea saw reports increase over a potential move for Osimhen or Toney. But Jackson has now scored four goals in his last two Premier League matches, including a hat-trick against Tottenham and a vital equaliser in the dramatic 4-4 draw with Manchester City.

Gallas believes the 22-year-old has done enough to be given a chance and a new signing would only stunt his growth. He told Lord Ping: “Victor Osimhen joining Chelsea would harm the confidence of players like Nicolas Jackson. You have to be careful and really think about bringing in a new striker.
“As I said before, I think Chelsea should finish the season with Jackson and see how many goals he gets. We also need to see how he improves. He has the quality to do so. Chelsea need to let Jackson get to work.
“Scoring goals will always boost the confidence of a striker, and Jackson’s hat-trick against Tottenham will definitely boost him, and we’ll see that confidence carry over into his next games. Chelsea need a striker who’ll score at least 20 goals a season.
“I don’t know if Jackson will do that, but at least he’s scoring. I hope more goals come for him.”

Owner Todd Boehly has spent over £1billion on new signings since buying Chelsea in May 2022. But Gallas says the American must hold off making any further additions and allow Mauricio Pochettino’s side to grow.
He added: “I think Chelsea should stick with the squad they have. They’ve bought so many players, and the squad needs to get to know each other.
“It’s looking like Chelsea are slowly starting to improve. I said a few months ago that the Chelsea squad isn’t ready to fight for the title or qualify for the Champions League.
“They will, however, improve from last season. I’m sure that they’ll be very strong next season and the one after.”
