Celtic are UK’s ‘sweariest club’ – Man Utd pip Liverpool in explicit rankings

Scotland are back at the head of the table among British football clubs – at least when it comes to putting pounds in the swear jar.

That's after the results of a recent study indicated Celtic supporters have the foulest mouths of any fanbase in the land. Ticketgum.com analysed the subreddit pages of every UK football club and found Hoops followers swore most frequently of any team, posting a profanity every 100 words on average.

In typical fashion, Old Firm rivals Rangers didn't want to get left behind and placed second in the pecking order, with their fans swearing once every 104 words. And while the gulf between the two Glasgow clubs may be massive, they share a common cause in that each fanbase's cuss word of choice is 'f*****g' (closely followed by 'f***').

That was the case for half of the top 10 teams, where Championship outfits Cardiff City (a swear every 105 words) and Leeds (108) placed third and fourth, respectively. And the Bluebirds are particularly staunch advocates of the word 'f*****g', which made up more than 20% of their expletives.

Newcastle United are doing well on and off the pitch of late after finishing as the highest-placed Premier League outfit in fifth (116). The same can't be said for Manchester United in terms of on-field performance, having seen their Champions League hopes crushed after drawing 3-3 at Galatasaray on Wednesday.

But despite that lack of luck, they're at least ahead of top-flight rivals when it comes to cursing, with their Redditors swearing once every 120 words. That's more than both Chelsea and Sheffield United, whose fans finished in joint-seventh with an average swear every 129 words.

Bringing up the rear is top-flight duo Brighton (130) and Liverpool (133), with the former not surprising given their fall in form this season. Roberto de Zerbi's Seagulls have failed to stack up with last term's charge into the Europa Conference League, while the Reds are back in contention for Premier League honours.

More than 5million words were sifted through from these 10 clubs alone to arrive at Reddit's most vulgar fanbases, with the UK's more northern clubs taking precedence. But England's football followers can't quite keep up with those north of the border, who apparently type in a language all of their own.
