Care reflects on England's Rugby World Cup win over Chile
A spectacular weekend of World Cup rugby saw each of England, Ireland and Scotland win. Wales got in on the act too, notching a thumping victory over Australia to dump Eddie Jones’ side out of the tournament in ruthless fashion, with the Wallabies boss’ future now hanging by a thread.
Steve Borthwick’s England put together an emphatic display against Chile, casting aside notions of unattractive rugby as Henry Arundell scored five tries to propel his nation to a resounding 71-0 win.
Ireland’s showdown with South Africa was contested with the ferocity of a final, which is to be expected when the top two teams in the world go head-to-head, and it was the Irish who came out on top, winning 13-8 after a gripping contest.
Scotland, meanwhile, made sure they weren’t left out, by scoring big in a 45-17 triumph over Tonga. As the clock ticks down towards more Rugby World Cup action later this week, follow Express Sport‘s live updates below…

Eddie Jones ruthlessly blanked
Australia boss Eddie Jones has been blanked by the country’s rugby chief, Hamish McLennan, since the Wallabies crashed out of the World Cup on Sunday.
Jones oversaw a crushing 40-6 defeat to Wales, prompting fierce speculation over his future.
When asked whether he had addressed rumours linking Jones to the Japan manager’s job, McLennan said: “I haven’t spoken to Eddie directly. But Waughy did and we are taking his word and he said there is nothing in it.”
Ex-England star wants pundit axed
Andy Goode has publicly complained about former Wales rugby captain Gareth Thomas forming part of ITV’s World Cup coverage.
Thomas agreed to pay £75,000 to a former partner back in January after being accused of ‘deceptively’ giving him HIV.
The 49-year-old maintains his innocence and insists that the payment was ‘not an admission of liability or guilt’.
During ITV’s coverage, Goode wrote on X: “It’s actually immoral that Gareth Thomas is on our TV screens, imagine a straight man doing what he did, they wouldn’t get another TV gig ever.”
