Lewis Hamilton already has F1 retirement plan as Brit puts pieces into place

Lewis Hamilton has stated that he plans to spend his time designing clothing collections and working in the movie business once he retires from F1. His time will also be taken up by running the many business and social improvement projects that come under his personal brand umbrella.

The seven-time world champion will turn 39 before the 2024 season gets underway and while he did sign a new, two-year contract with Mercedes that will keep him in the sport until the new technical regulations arrive in 2026, age catches up to everyone eventually and it is impossible to escape the fact that his F1 career is reaching its crescendo.

While the exploits of Fernando Alonso, who is still driving at the highest level despite being 42 years of age, show that it wouldn’t be impossible for Hamilton to drive deep into his forties, there is little appetite for him to do so if the record-breaking eighth World Championship isn’t a realistic prospect.

In an interview with Channel 4 ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Hamilton revealed the off-track activities that will continue to keep him busy beyond his F1 retirement. “I have a lot going on,” he explained. “Designing clothes, producing movies and documentaries.

“I have my non-alcoholic tequila, I have Neat Burger that I’m helping push and grow. I’ve got Plus 44, which I’m working on to improve. I’ve got a sportswear brand that I’m starting. I’ve mission 44, which has taken a lot of work.”

Hamilton was then asked how he manages to oversee all of his different business and social ventures alongside competing at the highest level in F1, to which he responded: “I have a huge team.

“So if there’s a point where I dropped the microphone, I’m good. But I’m going to hold on for a while [in F1]. I still just love what I’m doing. And I feel great physically. It’s still a challenge, I still feel I’m able to give as good as I get.”

The 38-year-old only just launched his latest brand, partnering with Ivan Saldana for a non-alcoholic tequila drink. This project was partially fuelled by Hamilton’s own commitment to quitting alcoholic beverages.

Despite his increasing focus on off-track ventures, Hamilton remains totally committed when behind the wheel of an F1 car. The Mercedes star has already wrapped up third place in the Drivers’ Championship standings and has been the main contributing factor to the Silver Arrows staying ahead of Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship too.
