World Cup camera ‘couldn’t move quick enough’ from crude Johnny Sexton banner

A crude Johnny Sexton banner forced a Rugby World Cup director to hurriedly change picture during Ireland’s win over South Africa.

Ireland propelled themselves to the brink of the quarter-finals with an epic 13-8 win over the reigning champions South Africa in Paris. Mack Hansen’s try and five points from Sexton helped settle a thrilling clash between world rugby’s top two teams.

There was unexpected drama off the pitch too after a racy message was broadcast on TV, albeit briefly. The message read: “Allez Johnny Sextoy.”

Despite the picture being swiftly changed, it was still spotted by a host of chuckling fans. One, posting on Reddit, said: “They couldn’t change cameras fast enough once they realised what it really said hahaha.”

A second said: “I saw it on TV earlier, didn't look properly, I'd say my brain just filled in the blank for me coz I'm only clocking this now.”

Meanwhile, another saucy sign was spotted in the crowd. “There was also a ‘Johnny's got you covered’ sign. The producers were slow on the uptake today,” said another Reddit user.

After the famous win, Sexton was naturally more focused on his country’s World Cup than any cheeky jokes about his name. He said: “I think we’ve had some big wins in pool stages before, that’s right up there.

“When you play against the reigning world champions, it’s always going to be incredibly tough and it was. They didn’t let us down in terms of the physicality of the game but I thought we fronted up and gave some good stuff ourselves in that regard.

“Yeah, it’s right up there but we’ve got to make it count now. We’ve got some time off this week with the bye week, then we regroup and we’ve got to back it up against Scotland and make sure we do the business to get out of the pool.”
