Golf fans face a rip-off in Rome ahead of the Ryder Cup.

Team Europe will look to win back the trophy when they take on Team USA at Marco Simone in the Italian capital this weekend. More than 50,000 supporters from both the continent and the United States will flood through the turnstiles to watch what has become one of the biggest sorting events on the planet.

But those wanting to take advantage of the hospitality will need deep pockets to do so. In the huge Ryder Cup shop close to where the open ceremony will take place on Thursday (September 28) evening, merchandise doesn't come cheap.

Sky Sports is bringing you 500 live football games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA and more across eight dedicated channels. Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action this year.

    £22 a month

Branded cashmere hoodies will set people back a staggering €449 (£389), while polo shirts sporting the Ryder Cup logo cost €103 (£89). Baseball caps can cost up to €42 (£36).

Elsewhere, food and drink is at a premium. In the food courts dotted around the course, a range of burgers cost up to €19.90 (£17), including French fries.

Soft drinks cost €4.50 (£3.90) while bottles of water will set people back €4 (£3.50). At the bar, a glass of champagne comes in at €16 (£14) and beer is €12 (£10.40) along with gin and tonics.

Mobile phone charges, meanwhile, will cost punters €20 (£17) to rent for the day. On a positive note, those deciding to refrain from alcohol can access water filling stations free of charge – which could be a godsend, considering temperatures in Rome are set to soar past 30 degrees this weekend.

In other non-playing matters, Team Europe captain Luke Donald has ordered his team-mates not to tackle 'Just Stop Oil' protesters if they invade the course.

He said: "I have no idea how likely it is [to happen]. But there's a plan in place for everything. The guys will be told not to interact with the guys, let security deal with that and then we'll carry on."
