WATCH OUT FORā€¦

Fantastic Lady (2.45, Aintree)

Though Nicky Henderson will tell you he couldnā€™t train a Grand National winner for toffee, he could land the first race over those famous Aintree fences of the season with Fantastic Lady. She has 12st on her back but never be deterred about a horse carrying top weight in a handicap. If they are good enough, they will carry the burden and this mare finished second over course and distance in April in the Topham Chase. Expect a bold showing.

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Wincanton on the second Saturday in November is when Paul Nicholls really goes through the gears and for stable jockey HARRY COBDEN that means plenty of opportunities. He has six rides ā€” five are favourites, the other is joint-favourite. The standout chances are KNAPPERS HILL (1.50) and RUBAUD (3.00). It would be no surprise at all if he leaves with four winners.

WHATā€™S IN A NAME?

Meatloaf (12.40, Wincanton)

Which version would you prefer? The dish of minced beef that is something of an American speciality? Or the late, great world-famous singer, whose hits include Bat Out Of Hell and I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Wonā€™t Do That)? Either way, this is a horse whose name you wonā€™t forget in a hurry. He runs in the colours of Sir Alex Ferguson and will be a hot favourite to oblige in the novice hurdle, after four educational runs in bumpers.

DEJA VU

Those horses to follow who are running in the same race as last year. AINTREE: 1.35 Remastered (1st); 2.45 Gesskille (2nd); Percussion (3rd).

WINCANTON: 2.25 Frodon (1st).

FAB FOR FAVOURITES

The 12.25 at Aintree has been profitable for ā€˜jolliesā€™ in the last 10 years, with five of them winning.

Stable jockey Harry Cobden will have plenty of opportunities – he has six rides, and five are favourties, with the other joint-favourite

Robin Goodfellow Best Bets – by Steve Ryder

Gesskille (NAP) has proven form over the Grand National fences and should hold strong claims of going one position better in the Grand Sefton Handicap Chase (Aintree, 2.45) than last year.Ā

Beaten only a nose in the contest in 2022, he finished second in the Becher Chase on his next start off a mark of 137 and races off only a 1lb higher mark this year. A winner of a listed chase on his reappearance in France, Gesskille has the benefit of race-fitness and looks a worthy favourite.

In the Badger Beer Handicap Chase (Wincanton, 2.25), the course specialist Certainly Red (NB) could upset better-known connections and provide trainer Lydia Richards and jockey Marc Goldstein with a valuable victory.Ā

Boasting form figures of 1211 at Wincanton, the nine-year-old won by two-and-a-quarter lengths here in February off a mark of 135. He is only 5lb higher Saturday for a horse and jockey combination who have won on their last four completed starts together.

The Wizard of Odds – by Chris Baker

1.30 Newcastle

Trainer Charlie Appleby (above) and jockey William Buick team up with VEIL OF SHADOWS, who drops down to Listed company after finishing second in a Group Three at Newmarket last month. 11-4

2.05 NEWCASTLE

SENSE OF DUTY won a Group Three contest in emphatic style over this course and distance last season. She is lightly raced and represents the in-form William Haggas stable. 2-1

3.45 NEWCASTLE

LOCAL DYNASTY (nap) should relish this step up in distance after staying on strongly over 10 furlongs in all three starts this year, including an eye-catching run last time out. 10-3
