Gary Lineker shared his excitement at Team Europe flying start to the Ryder Cup with an X-rated joke on social media.
Captain Luke Donald’s plan to open with foursomes paid dividends at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, with Team Europe whitewashing their American opponents 4-0.
Jon Rahm and Tyrell Hatton won the top match against Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns by a score of 4&3 with Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg defeating Brian Harman and Max Homa by the same score.
Sepp Straka and Shane Lowry defeated Collin Morikawa and Rickie Fowler while Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood emerged victorious against the previously undefeated foursomes duo of Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele to secure a perfect start.
Clearly inspired by their performances, football legend Lineker took to the platform formerly known as Twitter to make a cheeky joke writing: ‘It’s a long time since I’ve enjoyed foursomes this much.’

While another joked: ‘Depends how much of a good swinger you are’
Speaking following Europe’s success, Rory McIlroy enthused about the decision to start with the format.
The BBC pundit couldn’t help but poke fun at the format’s name in a joke on social media
‘It’s been an unbelievable session,’ McIlroy said. ‘We switched the format this year to go foursomes first because statistically that’s our better session.
‘And all week all we’ve been talking about is getting off to fast starts. Playing three-hole matches in practice, three holes, go again, three holes, go again, something that Luke’s drilled into us.
‘We were ready to go from the first tee shot as obviously as you can see in how everyone played.’
