One would struggle to find an elite boxer taller than Tyson Fury, but there was a time when his growth was at serious risk of being stunted.
Fury's father, John, has revealed how he was once responsible for breaking Tyson's leg so badly that the bone was left sticking out through his skin. What's even worse is the incident occurred when Fury Jr was only a baby.
John, 59, recounted how Tyson would often 'overheat' and 'have hallucinations of lions and demons' as a young boy. His father once took the child to a golf course for some fresh air but said he was startled when the club president appeared and starting moving towards them.

"He started shouting and walking towards me, so I picked up Tyson and legged it," read an extract from John's upcoming book, When Fury Takes Over, which is being serialised by The Sun. "I tried to jump over a ditch but the bank gave way beneath me and I landed with all my 20 stone on my baby son’s leg and snapped it.
"It sounded like a dry stick being broken. I took him home, he was shaking and sobbing in my arms."

Ex-wife and mother-of-Tyson, Amber, was understandably 'fuming' when John returned home with his son's leg in a shambles. And it's also to be expected that the Irish traveller inflicted serious guilt upon himself for what he'd done.
"It was one of the most painful experiences of my life, never mind for my poor son," he continued. "'How could you get this wrong?” I asked myself. How can a father break his own child’s leg?
“'You can see the bone sticking out of his leg!' screamed Amber. I hung my head in shame. 'You’re absolutely right. I’m a misfit and not capable of being a father,' I agreed."

The affliction clearly didn't impede Fury on his path to becoming arguably the best heavyweight boxer of his generation. The WBC titleholder is set to face former UFC champion Francis Ngannou on Saturday ahead of a unification clash against Oleksandr Usyk at a to-be-determined date.
John has also spoken about Tyson being born prematurely, but that didn't stop his father predicting he'd stand at nearly seven feet and conquer the boxing world. If only he'd had the same foresight while taking his son for a stroll around the fairways.
