Sections of boxing supporters have criticised Anthony Joshua for acting ‘very strangely’ in his recent interview with Louis Theroux where the heavyweight contender covered a variety of topics.
The former world heavyweight champion ran the roost over a potential mega fight with Tyson Fury and also explained the reasons behind why he doesn’t have a girlfriend.
Joshua sat down with the quirky interviewer, Theroux, for an in-depth analysis of his career, however, some viewers were left less than impressed by how the British boxer navigated his way through questioning.
The 34-year-old largely maintains a private personal life and has been seen in the public eye in England less frequently since he decided to move to America to work under a new trainer.
Joshua answered questions posed at him with a refreshing honesty for sporting superstars, but some viewers believe he lacked credibility when sat in front of the camera.

Critics labelled Joshua’s response to some of the questions posed at him by Theroux as ‘weird’
Opinion has always been split by the UK boxing fanbase over Joshua’s attributes and personality, with some favouring the brazen approach of Fury to the quieter and more considered AJ.
Social media has weighed in on Joshua’s latest television appearance by giving their verdict on how the two-time heavyweight world champion performed.
One online post labelled Joshua as ‘weird’ for how he answered questions, stating: ‘Watching Anthony Joshua being interviewed by @louistheroux Weird. The guy is never comfortable on camera and acts very strangely when being questioned. Stick to the boxing my guy.’
Another similarly critical post stated: ‘Hmm @louistheroux sit down interview with @anthonyjoshua is a bit weird.’
An unhappy viewer explained they were usually a fan of Theroux’s shows but labelled the Joshua series as a ‘snoozefest’, adding: ‘Usually love Louis Theroux stuff, but this is a snoozefest. Sorry.’
Other comments criticised Joshua’s attitude with another Tweet saying: ‘Anthony Joshua could find a way to argue in an empty room.. the bloke has a chip on his shoulder the size of his ego.’
A final comment dashed the boxer’s approach, adding: ‘Anthony Joshua coming across in this Louie Theroux doc predictably like an insufferable self obsessed nause.’
Joshua is one of the most popular and well-known British boxers but has largely remained out of the public eye recently
Joshua had hoped to regain his heavyweight titles in a rematch against Usyk last August, following his defeat to the Ukrainian in 2021.
The British fighter lost on split decision as Usyk retained the titles in Saudi Arabia.
In the aftermath of the defeat, Joshua threw two of Usyk’s belts out of the ring and onto the floor and headed for his changing room before storming back to shake Usyk’s hand.
He then picked up the microphone and went on an expletive-filled rant, discussing the fight, his career, the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, and also led cheers to Usyk.
