Australia win toss and bat: Green in for injured Stoinis
Australia have won the toss and will bat against the Netherlands in Delhi. Cameron Green replaces fellow allrounder in the only change to the squad which beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan in their past two matches. Stoinis has what has been described as lower level calf soreness. Travis Head had his first practice session again pace this week after joining the squad in India. However he has been given more time to prepare after suffering a broken hand shortly before the tournament.

‘One word – shambles’: What it’s like to be an Australian fan at the World Cup
Daniel Brettig has tracked down one of the few Australian fans brave enough to tackle the “shambles” that is this World Cup off the field.
Game day in Lucknow. A queue snakes around the footpath outside a ticket collection point, as is customary for sporting events.
But this queue is not at the stadium. Instead it is at an Adidas retailer some 10 kilometres from the game. David Williams and his wife Siobhan, two of the precious few Australians who have travelled to the event, are eventually handed their tickets in time to get to the ground some 15 overs into South Africa’s big win over Australia.

‘Most underrated cricketer in the world’: Aussie helms flying Dutchmen
Our man covering the Australians in India, Greg Baum, has done a wonderful profile on Dutch captain Scott Edwards, a dinkum Aussie.
Not so long ago, the captain of the biggest giant-slayer at the World Cup was opening the batting in the Geelong competition. It was the first summer of COVID, Melbourne club cricket was shut down, but Richmond coach Shannon Young arranged some games for Scott Edwards at Highton because it was outside the metropolitan area.
Hayden Murrell was playing-coach of Highton then and well remembers the century Edwards made against reigning premier North Geelong in round one. “He was sweeping the medium-pace and seam bowlers. They just didn’t know where to bowl to him,” Murrell said.

Welcome to our World Cup coverage as Australia aim for three straight wins
Australia have the chance to ensconce themselves in the top four with victory over the Netherlands in Delhi tonight. After a shaky start to the tournament a third successive win would leave the five-time World Cup winners a game clear in fourth place. Given that the Netherlands are the only non-Test national competing success would seem assured, particularly given Australia have met the Dutch twice before in World Cups, 2003 and 2007, and comfortably claimed both matches. But they claimed a remarkable victory over heavyweights South Africa just eight days ago. That’s the same South African team which beat Australia by 134 runs to leave Australia 0-2 at the start of the tournament after losing their opening match to India. Strong victories over Sri Lanka and Pakistan have set the Australians rolling but a shock loss tonight would leave Australia needing to win their last four games to make the semi-finals.
