Former Tottenham and Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has laid into Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat for his showing against Bournemouth. The Cherries ran out 3-0 winners on Saturday to notch their first ever victory at Old Trafford, inviting fierce criticism onto manager Erik ten Hag.

Buoyed by a full 90 minutes in Wednesday’s impressive 2-1 win over Chelsea, Amrabat was selected from the start against Bournemouth, but it didn’t take long for his afternoon to take a turn for the worse.

An early strike from Dominic Solanke set the tone, with Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi joining their team-mate on the scoresheet after the break. Dango Ouattara temporarily put the visitors a dizzying four goals up before his effort was chalked off for a handball.

Boos rang around Old Trafford at the final whistle, and Sherwood, who was on punditry duties for Sky Sports, pointed the finger at one squad member in particular.

“Amrabat is by far their worst player,” he told Soccer Saturday. “Maybe [he started the game] because he was one of their big-money signings.”

Sherwood went on to suggest that the Moroccan should be demoted to the bench and replaced by youngster Kobbie Mainoo, who has impressed when given first-team chances in recent weeks. “The kid deserves to play,” he continued. “It will be interesting to find out why [Ten Hag] is not playing him.”
