Boehly's Chelsea revolution continues after £65m purchase for new stadium

Chelsea appear to have let their secret out of the bag as they now face competition from the likes of Barcelona to sign Swedish sensation Roony Bardghji. The 18-year-old scored Copenhagen’s winning goal against Manchester United during their Champions League showdown at Parken last month and is now being chased by a whole host of major clubs.

Bardghji, who was born in Kuwait City, moved to Sweden as a child and joined Copenhagen from Malmo in the summer of 2020. The winger was handed his first team debut for his current employers during a Swedish league match against Aarhus two years ago and featured twice in the Champions League as a 16-year-old last season.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Europe’s top clubs are starting to move for Bardghji, with Chelsea and Barcelona tracking him alongside Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen. The player only turned 18 in mid-November and is contracted to his current club until the summer of 2025.

Bardghji came off the bench for the last 27 minutes of Copenhagen’s encounter with the Red Devils, with the teams level at 2-2. And despite seeing his side fall behind to a Bruno Fernandes strike, Bardghji lashed home the winner three minutes from the end after Lukas Lerager had equalised.

After the goal, Copenhagen manager Jacob Neestrup told reporters: “This kid actually thinks he’s born to score the winner in games like these. I love his attitude.”

And Bardghji also addressed transfer speculation a few days later as he explained: “It’s fun – it means you’re doing something good. But like I said before, I don’t think too much about it. I play in Copenhagen and I am here with the national team now. But it’s big and I’m glad they’re looking at me. I have great confidence and believe that I am ready for whatever comes. I don’t mean that I should go now, but I mean that I have the confidence regardless of whether it would be now or later.
