Lewis Hamilton has admitted that it’s possible that his eventual retirement from F1 could come abruptly, although he has insisted that he still has a love for driving racing cars. The seven-time world champion will turn 39 before the 2024 season gets underway.

This has been one of the toughest seasons of Hamilton’s stellar career, but despite the constant frustration with the inconsistent balance and performance of the W14, the legendary Brit’s performances have remained at a consistently high level.

While the Silver Arrows have failed to consistently deliver a car capable of challenging for the podium places, Hamilton still managed to finish in third place in the Drivers’ Championship standings, beating the likes of Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris while also finishing 59 points to the good on team-mate George Russell.

However, it is impossible to avoid the fact that at 38, Hamilton is entering the twilight years of his career. He did put pen to paper on a new two-year contract earlier this season, but if the current regulation period comes to an end and Mercedes are no closer to challenging Red Bull for a World Championship, retirement will seem a very real possibility.
