McLaren driver Lando Norris crashed out of the Las Vegas Grand Prix and forced Sky Sports F1’s camera to shake in a nightmare start to race for the Brit. He quickly confirmed over the team radio that he was “OK” before team CEO Zak Brown assured viewers of Norris’ status on the broadcast.

Norris has since been transported to a nearby hospital for what the team described as “precautionary” checks. On X (formerly known as Twitter) they wrote: “Following Lando’s incident earlier, he was transferred to the circuit Medical Centre and has now been taken to University Medical Center for further precautionary investigations.”

He has since been discharged and returned to the paddock, after the McLaren car had a big snap of oversteer through Turn 11 and Norris hit the wall hard well before Turn 12. He nearly went into his team-mate Oscar Piastri but they managed to avoid colliding.

On commentary, Martin Brundle described the incident. “Lando lost the back end of the car very early doors,” he said. “The car nearly took out his team-mate. It started way up the track when the car just snapped sideways. A total passenger in that. All he has done is driven into the corner and started to apply the brakes.”

JUST IN Las Vegas GP diary as security heightened with hotel room checks ahead of race[LATEST]

McLaren had thought that they had made a perfect start to the race, after both of their drivers were eliminated during Q1 yesterday. Both Norris and Piastri had made up plenty of places as they looked to move up the grid before Norris crashed out.

But after the 24-year-old swapped ends at high speed, his day came to a premature end and it remains to be seen whether there was an issue with the car.
