Liverpool have seen the possibility of dream transfer target Kylian Mbappe heading to one of their Premier League rivals increase, after Real Madrid reportedly pulled out of the race to sign the Paris Saint-Germain superstar. Mbappe’s future remains up in the air despite committing to a new deal at PSG, with the Reds long-term admirers of the 24-year-old.

Spanish outlet Cadena SER have claimed that Real Madrid are no longer prioritising a potential transfer of Mbappe, despite being strongly linked with the French forward in the past. With Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo at the club and Brazilian wonderkid Endrick set to join them, Los Blancos have turned their attention elsewhere.

This has opened the door for other top teams to enter the race for Mbappe’s signature and L’Equipe have previously stated that Liverpool are in the running to sign him. Their interest dates back to 2017, but one issue for Jurgen Klopp’s side are the finances involved.

Spanish reports have stated that Mbappe is demanding a yearly wage of £30.5million after tax and a signing bonus of around £87m on top of any fee that PSG could take for him.

Liverpool spent approximately £150m in the summer to rebuild their midfield with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo, but Klopp has usually had to keep up with the Reds’ rivals without matching their spending.
