Novak Djokovic is left waiting on Jannik Sinner’s result in the ATP Tour Finals to find out if he reaches the semi-finals of the tournament. The 24-time grand slam champion defeated Hubert Hurkacz in three sets in his final group match on Thursday.

Djokovic is currently ranked at the top of the Green Group in the ATP Tour Finals, which is currently taking place in Turin, Italy. Djokovic defeated Holger Rune in his first group match but lost to Sinner on Tuesday.

As a result of the loss to the Italian, Djokovic is left waiting to find out if he will have a place in the semi-finals. Sinner, who has won both of his opening matches, is due to face Rune in his final match of the round-robin on Thursday evening.

Should Sinner claim a victory, then Djokovic’s place in the semi-finals would be secured. However, were Rune to win then it would see the reigning U.S. Open champion exit the tournament.

Djokovic dropped one set in the win over Hurkacz, which has left his place in the tournament uncertain. Djokovic has a 5-4 overall set record in the group, while Rune – who has one win and one loss from his first two matches – stands at 3-2, meaning a victory in any form would see his overall record better than Djokovic.

After defeating Hurkacz, Djokovic was in his post-match interview on the court if he would be sending a text to Sinner to wish him “good luck” against Rune. However, Djokovic gave a blunt response where he accepted that his fate in the tournament was out of his hands.

“No, I really don’t care,” Djokovic told Tennis Channel. “I did my job so let’s see what happens. If I qualify for the semi-final I’ll think about it tomorrow.”
