Tottenham have five players who could speak with European clubs in January to negotiate a pre-agreement for the summer transfer window. Ange Postecoglou has breathed a new lease of life into Spurs and the ex-Celtic boss could be content with parting ways with several fringe stars in order to create room for new arrivals. Express Sport takes a look at the five players in question…

Hugo Lloris

Following the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario over the summer, the expectation was that Hugo Lloris would leave the club to find to retire with. However, the France international rejected a return to his boyhood club Nice on deadline day in favour of remaining at Spurs. Numerous clubs remain interested in signing the 36-year-old and he could be on the move in January, rather than agreeing on a deal for the summer.

Eric Dier

With defensive issues mounting for Postecoglou, Eric Dier has been thrown back in at the deep end and tasked with steadying the backline. The Tottenham star has emerged with credit, though it is unclear whether he will be offered a new deal by the club. Dier is capable of playing in midfield as well as in defence, and Tottenham may be keen to ensure he doesn’t have his head turned while the club is struggling with injuries and relying on his experience.

Ivan Perisic

Among the aforementioned absentees is Ivan Perisic, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in September that has ruled him out for the foreseeable future. The versatile winger has never truly lit the Premier League up and Spurs could be willing to allow him to depart at the end of the season, with clubs around Europe and Saudi Arabia likely to be interested in acquiring his services.

Fraser Forster

Spurs No. 2 Fraser Forster is another who can negotiate with European clubs in the January transfer window. The 35-year-old proved last season that he is still capable of playing regularly but remains firmly below Vicario in the pecking order at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, if Spurs shy away from handing the goalkeeper a new deal, they will almost certainly need to find a direct replacement who is content with warming the bench regularly – and that could prove tricky.
