Liverpool could benefit from resting Mohamed Salah and another key first-team player when they face Toulouse in the Europa League tonight. The Reds will seal their place in the knockout stages with victory, which would put them on 12 points from just four matches.

Liverpool cruised to a 5-1 win over Toulouse in their last meeting, with Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Salah scoring at Anfield two weeks ago. Jurgen Klopp named a much-changed side on that occasion and might be tempted to rotate his squad again for the reverse fixture in order to give his senior players a rest.

Salah could be among those rested for Liverpool’s next match after toiling in their lacklustre draw at Luton Town over the weekend. The Reds were made to work hard for a point at Kenilworth Road and were far from their free-flowing best against the Hatters, with Salah among their biggest underperformers.

Dominik Szoboszlai also struggled in the middle of the park and might be rested for tonight’s match against Toulouse, with the likes of Endo and Curtis Jones in line to start. The Hungarian playmaker has largely excelled for the Reds this season but lacked quality against Luton and could benefit from a rest ahead of this weekend’s Premier League meeting with Brentford.

Salah and Szoboszlai are two of Liverpool’s most-used players since the beginning of the campaign and would be sorely missed if they were to pick up any injuries over the coming weeks. The Merseyside giants will likely have enough to beat Toulouse regardless of whether the duo play or not, which suggests that rotation could be the way to go for Klopp tonight.

It seems as though plenty of changes will be made by Liverpool across the board, as has been the case in their other Europa League games so far this season. Caoimhin Kelleher is almost certain to start in goal for the Reds, while the likes of Jarell Quansah and Kostas Tsimikas may also be in line to feature at the back.
