Liverpool have been backed by Gabriel Agbonlahor to have a plan in place for Mohamed Salah’s “inevitable” exit to Saudi Arabia. Salah was strongly linked with Al-Ittihad in the summer transfer window but the Pro League outfit failed to make an acceptable offer to the Reds.

Salah remained at Liverpool despite his reported intrigue in joining the swathes of high-profile stars landing in the Middle East. The forward has enjoyed an excellent season in the Premier League, scoring eight goals.

However, Liverpool have been told that the Egyptian’s departure next summer is “inevitable” and that they must put a succession plan in place. Come next summer, Salah will enter the final year of his contract and will have more power over where he decides to play.

Former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor has backed Liverpool to make the right decision. The 37-year-old thinks Salah will opt for a move to Saudi Arabia in 2024.

“I do see Mo Salah in Saudi Arabia, 100 per cent. He’ll go out there and be the highest-paid player. I do see it happening in the summer,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

I don’t think it’s about money for Liverpool. They’ll get whatever they ask for. It’s inevitable at this point.”

Liverpool managed to fend off interest from Al-Ittihad in the summer transfer window. The Saudi club reportedly arrived in England for talks with Anfield chiefs but failed to offer an acceptable fee.

Speaking in the days before the summer transfer window closed, Klopp insisted that Salah would remain a Liverpool player and is ‘essential’ to the club’s plans. “We don’t have an offer,” the German said.

“Mo Salah is a Liverpool player and essential for everything we do.
