Henri Lansbury has bravely revealed how he overcame testicular cancer during his time at Nottingham Forest.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0former <\/span>Arsenal academy star called an end to his playing career during the summer,\u00a0as he set his sights on a brand new career outside of being a footballer.<\/span><\/p>\n Now, following his retirement, Lansbury has opened up on one of the most difficult moments of his career, which came during his time at Forest.<\/p>\n The midfielder played for Forest between 2012-2017 and, during that time, was forced to overcome the worrying health issue, thanks to club doctors.\u00a0<\/p>\n Speaking on Sky Sports, Lansbury said: ‘I was in the shower after training one day and was obviously having a feel as I was washing myself and I felt a lump. It was a little pea-sized lump.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Henri Lansbury has revealed that he overcame testicular cancer at Nottingham Forest<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lansbury played for Forest between 2012-17 and made 150 appearances for the club<\/p>\n Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n ‘Over time I thought it would go away but a couple months passed and it was still there. We broke up for the summer, about to go on holiday… but it was eating me away for a few months.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘Obviously having it, not telling anyone and just trying to deal with it myself. And it came to the point where I thought I had to see someone and someone had to help me out.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘First of all, I just went down to the local hospital to see if I could get it checked out. But they said the lead time was a few weeks. Obviously, going on holiday, I didn’t want to go away with it.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘So I had to phone the club and ask for help. They put me in contact with someone to go get it checked out. Had a scan there and he said ‘alright we’ll give you your results in a bit’.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘As I’ve left to get in my car, the doctor from\u00a0Nottingham Forest\u00a0has called me and said: ‘Go and pack a bag. You’re going back in for the operation tonight. It was a bit fast but glad to get it out’.\u00a0<\/p>\n The ex-Gunners midfielder began his career in North London, where he was a highly-rated youngster and graduated to the first team under Arsene Wenger.\u00a0<\/p>\n After making eight appearances for Arsenal, he went on to represent\u00a0Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and Bristol City, as well as earn 17 England U21 Caps.<\/p>\n He was last seen as part of the Luton squad that won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in June, but upon the expiry of his contract at Kenilworth Road he has decided to take his career down a different path.\u00a0<\/p>\n The 32-year-old is heading to Monaco to work on the French side’s pitches, after coming up with a new formula for fertiliser.\u00a0<\/p>\n Speaking to talkSPORT, former Gunners youngster Lansbury revealed his plans and his excitement at taking the business, Grass Gains, across Europe.\u00a0<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Lansbury, who retired from football in summer, heaped praise on Forest’s club doctors<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00a0The 32-year-old stepped away from football after helping Luton achieve promotion last year<\/p>\n ‘It came about during the first lockdown when I was stuck at home and got into gardening,’ Lansbury explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘I started to spray my weeds with toxic stuff and put toxic fertiliser down and my missus wasn’t too happy about the kids running on the grass straight after.<\/p>\n ‘I was trying to usher them off and she said ‘why can’t they just make an organic fertiliser?<\/p>\n ‘I put my head together with my mate and me and the boys have cracked on and taken it to another level.’\u00a0<\/p>\n It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube, Apple Music and Spotify.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\nIT’S ALL KICKING OFF!\u00a0<\/h3>\n
