England star Jude Bellingham was dealt a brutal touchline snub after producing a man-of-the-match performance against Italy on Tuesday night as he was told to come back for his post-match interview as Channel 4 were heading for a break. The Three Lions booked their place at Euro 2024 as they came from behind to win the match 3-1 at Wembley Stadium.

After the full-time whistle was blown, a whole host of players came over to the touchline to greet Channel 4 pundits Jill Scott, Joe Cole and Gianfranco Zola. Bellingham, who grabbed an assist on the night and won a penalty, was the final player to approach the trio. But he was turned away by presenter Jules Breach.

“Jude Bellingham is going to come over and have a proper chat with us in a minute but for the time being I know he wanted to share a bit of love with Gianfranco Zola, with Joe and Jill,” Breach said. “And Jude you are going to come back and join us in a minute. Come back in a bit because we’ve got to take a break quickly.”

Bellingham won his 27th England cap against the Italians and illustrated his prodigious talents throughout the match as he broke down possession and dictated play. He urged his team-mates forward and galvanised the Three Lions after they had fallen behind to Gianluca Scamacca’s early goal.

And Bellingham then teed-up Marcus Rashford as England took the lead in the early stages of the second period. England ultimately killed off any hopes of an Italy comeback 13 minutes before the end as Kane notched his second goal of the night.

“It is the mentality that is the thing [with Bellingham],” explained England boss Gareth Southgate after the match. “It’s the belief. Sometimes you see talent and you can see skill, but to have such belief and impact on the game and be so comfortable engaging with the crowd and all of those things – we’re very lucky.”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. And the ace is expected to be one of the stars of next year’s Euro 2024, with England among the favourites to lift the trophy.

But Channel 4 didn’t even speak to the player on their main show as they told viewers his interview would eventually be screened on their 4Seven channel instead.
