Max Verstappen believes that one day his body will tell him when it is time to retire from F1. The reigning world champion will be 31 when his contract comes to an end in the aftermath of the 2028 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
While Verstappen is now undoubtedly entering the conversation for the best drivers of all time\u00a0and has the opportunity to challenge Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher\u2019s joint-held record of seven world titles, there has been talk that he could retire before this point.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old has already been in the sport for nearly a decade after making his F1 debut at a record young age of 17 back in 2015 and holds a desire to compete in different legendary motorsport races in his prime, rather than in the latter stages of his career.<\/p>\n

But if you’re P15, you might not enjoy it. But if you’re still fighting at the front, trying to win races and have the prospect of coming back to the top, then I could certainly still enjoy F1.”<\/p>\n Verstappen was also asked whether he thinks the day will come when he loses his hunger for racing, to which he replied: \u201cCertainly. I think that’s very normal. Of course, I’m still very young, but at some point, I think you’ve had enough.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone has that at some point, I think because you realise that your body can’t handle it anymore. In some sports, you have to accept that. And then it is time, in a sense, to retire. At some point, you may want to do other things or race less, of course. Fernando Alonso is still racing at 42 and showing no signs of slowing down, pushing the boundaries of what it is possible to achieve in modern machinery.<\/p>\n Hamilton also looks set to race into his forties with the 38-year-old penning a new two-year contract earlier this summer that will keep him with the team until the end of the current regulation period.\u00a0<\/p>\n
