In doing so, he also won the team event alongside his mother.<\/p>\n<p>The 2022 US Open champion, playing on the back of his contributions to Europe\u2019s Ryder Cup victory, finished 19 under par to take his second title of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The tournament was shortened to 54 holes after storms wiped out play over the weekend on the three courses of St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He won by three strokes over Marcus Armitage, Matthew Southgate and defending champion Ryan Fox, while also taking pro-am honours with his mother, Susan.<\/p>\n<p>The 29-year-old said: \u2018It&#8217;s funny really, it was kind of a freewheeling week &#8211; playing with mum and just trying to see what happened. Even with all my wins, aside from a major, you forget about them in the future, and you&#8217;ll always remember the one that you won with your mum, so it doesn&#8217;t get better than that.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/21\/76353187-0-image-a-41_1696883338381.jpg\" height=\"422\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Matt Fitzpatrick (above) claimed the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on Monday<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/10\/09\/21\/76353191-0-image-a-42_1696883345570.jpg\" height=\"436\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>The 2022 US Open champion also claimed the pro-am honours with his mother, Susan<\/p>\n<p>The win followed Fitzpatrick\u2019s PGA Tour success at the RBC Heritage in April, but was his first on the DP World Tour for two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That it was possible at all owed much to ground staff who somehow made the three courses playable after severe flooding on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Fitzpatrick said: \u2018Winning at St Andrews is special &#8211; it&#8217;s just a very special place.
