Nico Rosberg has called out Lance Stroll after the Aston Martin driver was filmed throwing his steering wheel from the cockpit and shoving his personal trainer in the aftermath of qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old driver was pushing to make it out of Q1 on Friday but failed to improve enough on his final run, locking him into a P17 starting grid slot for Sunday’s race and leaving the Canadian furious in the cockpit.

Stroll took his frustration out on his trainer in the garage after the session with what appeared to be a shove, before giving an extremely short TV interview in which labelled his performance with an expletive before shrugging off two more questions and storming out.

Speaking to Sky Sports F1 about the incident, Rosberg said: “The behaviour there was poor. That steering wheel cost £20,000 and he scratched the top of the car by throwing it out. Pushed his trainer away and everything, that was not on. That’s really bad behaviour.

Social media is taking you on and speaking badly about you, so it’s really hard.

“Plus you’re in that situation where you are the son of the boss so even internally the pressure will be building a lot. I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes…”

Rosberg then claimed that Stroll’s performances would have him fired from any other team on the grid, stating: “If he was any other driver he’d be out for next year with the way that it’s going at the moment with the way the team is going with expectations to get podiums and wins.

Don’t miss… We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. He was quick at the beginning of the season, there or thereabouts with Fernando who is one of the greatest of all time. But I don’t know what’s going on.”

With Stroll struggling to his way into the point on a consistent basis, Aston Martin are fighting McLaren for P4 in the Constructor Championship with one hand tied behind their backs. His team-mate, Fernando Alonso, will start from P4 on Sunday.
