1<\/span> of 1<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n Paulo Aukuso\u2019s manager implored the Australian Olympian not to go ahead with his fight against Gabriel Omar Diaz.<\/p>\n Aukuso has had a horrible preparation, battling injuries and dealing with a heart attack to his manager less than three weeks ago. It\u2019s little wonder, when he stepped on the scales for yesterday\u2019s weigh-in, that he was 1.5kg over the limit.<\/p>\n The fight will go on regardless, but at significant cost to Aukuso. This bout was meant to be for the IBO intercontinental light-heavyweight title, but the belt will now only be awarded if Diaz is the winner. Aukuso will also have to pay Diaz – who travelled all the way from Argentina – a financial penalty of about $5000.<\/p>\n Paulo Aukuso (right) wasn\u2019t able to make the weight in his fight against Gabriel Omar Diaz.<\/span>Credit: <\/span>Stan Sport\/Dynamic Events<\/cite><\/p>\n Aukuso\u2019s advisor, Fidel Tukel, said it was the worst preparation he had overseen in a 300-fight career.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m his advisor and my advice to him two-and-a-half weeks ago was to pull the plug,\u201d Aukuso said. \u201cHe said no.\u201d<\/p>\n The fight will go ahead and Aukuso is adamant he will win it.<\/p>\n \u201cOne thing about me, I was never going to pull out,\u201d Aukuso said.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of it is my fault, I didn\u2019t do things the right way. It\u2019s a lesson for me.
