Victoria Beckham hates Glenn Hoddle so much that she refuses to call him a man.

Ex-England manager Hoddle is in the firing line for the Beckhams following his treatment of Victoria's Manchester United legend hubby David before and after the 1998 World Cup.

Beckham was infamously sent off in the knockout game against Argentina, where he kicked out at Diego Simeone. England would go on to lose the match on penalties.

As England believed they were one of the favourites to win the tournament, the general public turned on Beckham for his role in the defeat – but they were very much stoked by comments from Hoddle.

In an on-pitch interview following the game, Hoddle claimed that Beckham was to blame for the loss and that he had let down his country. And it resulted in the pile on which changed Beckham's life.

“I don’t think I’ve ever talked about it because I don’t think I can," David says in his new Netflix documentary. "I find it hard to talk about it because what I went through was so extreme. The whole country hated me.”

But the disconcert for the Beckhams is shared across the family. Victoria, still visibly angry with the incident, added: "Glenn Hoddle didn’t come out and try and protect David. How old was David then? 23? Glenn Hoddle was man… well, I wouldn’t even call him a man. He was an older person. The absolute hate. Public bullying on another level.”

Beckham's mum, Sandra, added: "When I watched Hoddle’s interview, I thought 'what have you done?' He made it like it was David’s fault. We’d been used to a manager in Sir Alex Ferguson who never spoke about his team. They just blamed him after that."

Beckham and Hoddle's relationship appeared strained from the very start of the World Cup in France.

After David was permitted to visit Victoria before the competition – because he had not seen her in a number of weeks due to a Spice Girls tour – he was pictured wearing a serong and made the front pages of the newspapers.

Hoddle then conducted an interview saying that David should focus on the football before anything else – and dropped him for the opening game.

Gary Neville told Netflix: "Glen just created an absolute s***storm for David and for the whole country. David was down. He was low. I don’t think he wanted to be there. He wanted to go home."

Beckham added: "It killed me. He was questioning me as a player. He was questioning my personality, my professionalism. That’s when questions were asked about whether I should be in the squad, am I right for the tournament. And then I get dropped to the bench.

"Even though I had been treated in the way Hoddle had treated me, I still wanted to be there."
