Liverpool’s bid to overturn Curtis Jones’ red card during Saturday’s controversial Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur has been denied.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old will serve a three-match ban after being sent off for a high tackle on Yves Bissouma.<\/p>\n
Referee Simon Hooper had initially shown Jones a yellow for the clumsy challenge but upgraded to a red after reviewing it on the pitchside monitor.<\/p>\n
The Reds subsequently appealed the decision but have since confirmed that they did so unsuccessfully.\u00a0<\/p>\n
A statement from the club read: ‘Curtis Jones is set to serve a three-match Premier League suspension after an appeal to overturn the red card he received at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday was unsuccessful.’<\/p>\n

Jones was initially shown a yellow card but referee Simon Hooper upgraded to a red after watching a frame by frame replay<\/p>\n
As a result, Jones will miss Liverpool’s domestic fixtures against Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton and Nottingham Forest\u00a0this month.<\/p>\n
He will, however, be available for Wednesday night’s Europa League tie against Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise as well as their upcoming encounter with Toulouse on October 26.<\/p>\n
Jones’ challenge caused a great deal of debate around the footballing globe. Gary Neville was among those that vehemently disagreed with the call.<\/p>\n
‘No, no, no. I know when you’re doing someone, I’ve done it myself, he wasn’t there to do someone,’ he said on the Sky Sports commentary.<\/p>\n
‘They’re showing the end motion which looks bad. But that’s not how it’s ended up there, his foot just slipped off the ball.<\/p>\n
‘It’s not a red card but he’s going to get one and it’s going to ruin the game probably.’<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara remarked: “It’s a shocking challenge. A leg-breaker.”<\/p>\n

Liverpool lodged an appeal against the decision but the Reds were unsuccessful in doing so<\/p>\n
Liverpool finished the game with nine men after Diogo Jota was sent packing for a second bookable offence.<\/p>\n
The 26-year-old will serve a one-game ban and so won’t be available for Liverpool’s trip to the south coast on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In total, the Merseyside club picked up eight cards at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend which led to them being fined\u00a0\u00a325,000 – the usual punishment for any side that accumulates six or more cards in a single match.<\/p>\n
Spurs have not been penalised as they only received five bookings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
