Megan Rapinoe has been mocked for 'playing her own entrance music' ahead of her farewell appearance for the US women\u2019s team.<\/p>\n
The 38-year-old brought the curtain down on her legendary career with a friendly match against South Africa in Chicago at the weekend. Known for her activism off the pitch as much as her accomplishments on it, the World Cup winner rounded off her playing career in typically brash fashion.<\/p>\n
Ahead of the South Africa game, she was captured heading into the US dressing room wearing bright reflective sunglasses and clutching a speaker playing music. The scene has led to criticism from some, including US sports columnist and podcaster Jason Whitlock.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve normalized self-idolatry,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is swag! She\u2019s carrying her own entrance music. It\u2019s clownish behaviour.\u201d<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, some fans labelled her arrival \u201ccringe\u201d, with one saying: \u201cMegan Rapinoe playing her own entrance music. Cringe.\u201d For some fans, Rapinoe\u2019s entrance brought back memories of wrestling icon Bret \u2018The Hitman\u2019 Hart, who wore similar shades during his in-ring career.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes she think she\u2019s Bret the Hitman Hart?!\u201d asked one. Recalling Hart\u2019s famous catchphrase, another quipped: \u201cI'm sure she thinks that she's the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the US won the game 2-0, there were emotional scenes as Rapinoe said goodbye to fans. She said: "So overwhelming. It has been amazing. It has been really wonderful, to hear all the nice things, to have a closure moment, to play in front of a big crowd again.<\/p>\n
"I'll miss it forever. I don't think I'll ever be at a moment where it will feel perfect but this is pretty close."<\/p>\n
