Fears are growing for the health of two European caddies due to the scorching heat at the Ryder Cup in Rome.

Temperatures in the Italian capital have been close to 30 degrees. They are predicted to get even higher this weekend, which could spell danger for portly bag men Mick Donaghy and Duane Bock.

Donaghy, who caddies for Tyrell Hatton and Sepp Straka's caddie Bock could be seen toiling in the heat during yesterday's practice rounds at Marco Simone. The course is regarded as a tough one to walk – especially between the 17th green and 18th tee where there is a steep hill to climb.

Some caddies could be asked to do 36 holes on each of the first two days. And with the fitness of Donaghy and Bock being called into question, European captain Luke Donald could decide to rotate the duo on Friday and Saturday.

Donald has considered pooling the caddies in a bid to deal with the heat, while some players could decide to use lighter bags. European vice captains will also follow matches round on buggies carrying water to make sure players and caddies remain hydrated.
