Thomas Frank insists Brentford will be prepared if Ivan Toney is sold in the January transfer window with both Arsenal and Chelsea interested in signing the striker.

Arsenal news, exclusives and analysis

Toney is currently serving an eight-month ban after he accepted 232 breaches of the Football Association’s rules on betting and is suspended until January 17, 2024.

But the 27-year-old may have already played his final game for Brentford as both Arsenal and Chelsea are keen on a deal in the January window.

Reports this week have claimed that Arsenal are planning to submit a bid in the next window, while Chelsea are also keeping tabs on the situation as they plan to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s squad with a central striker.

It’s understood that Brentford are demanding at least £80 million for Toney, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season.

And Brentford manager Frank is refusing to rule out the possibility of losing their star striker before the end of the season.

When asked what he expects to happen in the next transfer window, Frank replied: ‘In January? I don’t know.

‘The only thing I’m focusing on is the game tomorrow [against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup].

‘As you know we are preparing for transfer windows ahead. Of course, we are not only looking not only at striker options or full-back, we are prepared for any position if something should happen.

‘I think it’s also fair to say that if we wanted a striker in the summer we could’ve tried to get one, we got one in Neal [Maupay], you could say that, so, yeah, let’s see.’
