Mason Mount is closing in on a return to action for Manchester United after stepping up his recovery from injury.<\/p>\n
The 24-year-old has not featured for the Red Devils since picking up an injury in a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham on August 19, but was pictured in training last week and his condition is steadily improving.<\/p>\n
He could now make his comeback in tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup clash with Crystal Palace\u00a0at Old Trafford.<\/p>\n
Mount was seen smiling as he worked alongside his team-mates on Monday morning, and will be desperate to get back on the pitch after only playing two games for United since his \u00a360m summer move.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Harry Maguire is also pushing to play after returning to training following a recent injury.<\/p>\n
The England international has missed United’s last two matches, but is back with the first-team squad.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Fellow centre back Raphael Varane\u00a0was also involved in training as United’s injury problems begin to ease.<\/p>\n
Erik ten Hag has been left with a depleted squad for recent matches after injuries to Luke Shaw, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Tyrell Malacia among others.<\/p>\n
He only had five defenders in his squad for United’s 4-3 defeat against Bayern Munich last week, and had to call upon Jonny Evans in the 1-0 win over Burnley on Saturday after Lisandro Martinez became the latest player to be ruled out of action.<\/p>\n
