<\/p>\nAmerican golfer Wyndham Clark has sent out a challenge to Rory McIlroy ahead of this year’s Ryder Cup in order to prove he is the better golfer. The current US Open champion is keen to face the 24-time PGA Tour winner in the singles competition, despite referring to McIlroy as “one of the best of all time.”<\/p>\n
Clark has enjoyed an impressive season winning The Wells Fargo Championship and registering 12 top-20 finishes to give him automatic qualification to the Ryder Cup. But his biggest achievement to date, and first major title win, came in June when he lifted the US Open at the Los Angeles Country Club.<\/p>\n
Among his closest competitors at the tournament was McIlroy, who ended the tournament in second by a single point having previously won the event in 2011. And despite his win, the American wants to face off against the Northern Irishman yet again at the Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n
“That is exactly who I want, I would love to play Rory,” Clark told Golf Channel ahead of his first Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have the utmost respect for Rory \u2013 he is one of our great ambassadors of our game. He is obviously one of the best of all time and he is still going so he can be that. I have tons of respect for Rory and because of that respect, I also want to beat him. I like to think I am better than him and I want to prove that.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would love to play Rory, I think that would be really fun for the fans too. Long-ball hitters. We have similar games in that respect. It would be a little bit of David and Goliath. I am hoping to get that chance. Regardless of who I play, I am really excited. But that one would be a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
Clark was then asked about his defeat to Spanish golfer Jon Rahm at the Palmer Cup in 2014 and whether he would like a rematch – with Rahm also featuring on Team Europe this year.<\/p>\n
