A cheeky Sunderland supporter left Eddie Howe hanging as the Newcastle boss started this year's Great North Run.

Howe, 45, was given the honour of kicking off the biggest half-marathon in the world, taking place in the north east between Newcastle and South Shields, on Sunday (September 10).

The Magpies boss was aptly dressed in a black suit, although perhaps not a suitable outfit choice given the sweltering heat over the last week in England.

While he was on home turf, the event of course attracts plenty of runners from across the region, including thousands of rival fans from neighbouring Sunderland.

TNT is the only place you can watch all the action from the Champions League this year. You can see every game from the group stage right through to the final as Manchester City look to defend their crown as the newest kings of the World's biggest and best football tournament.

One of them – YouTuber KyleDon, who films matchday vlogs at the Stadium of Light – attempted to get one up on Howe as he had his arm outstretched to high-five those taking part at the start line.

Kyle faked the high-five, instead pumping his fist and shouting "Sunderland 'til I die" – the name of the Netflix documentary about the now-Championship side.

Unfortunately for Howe, he didn't have assistant manager Jason Tindall to get in front of the camera and shush the fan like he did Jurgen Klopp during their Premier League defeat to Liverpool last month.

He brushed off the moment regardless. It seems there were plenty of jibes directed at him throughout the course of the day. According to the Chronicle, another Sunderland supporter told him: "You're going to get relegated Eddie."

Howe followed in the footsteps of some north east icons by starting off the Great North Run, including Ant and Dec and Sting. The highlight of this year's was four-time Olympic gold medallist Sir Mo Farah finishing his career with a fourth-placed finish in his last-ever competitive race.
