Marion Bartoli has weighed in after “brutal” conditions affected several matches at the US Open. Daniil Medvedev previously claimed that one player was “going to die” in the heat while wheelchair and junior matches were suspended on Friday due to rising temperatures. Bartoli’s comments come after four climate change protesters were ejected by police during Coco Gauff’s semi-final match on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The extreme weather has been a key talking point in week two of the US Open, with the heat rule in effect for several days in a row. Players like Medvedev have also been seen struggling in the conditions during their matches. The climate change conversation then came to the forefront following a protest during Gauff’s victory over Karolina Muchova.<\/p>\n
Three Extinction Rebellion campaigners wearing End Fossil Fuels T-shirts were removed from the stands while a fourth protester glued his feet to the floor of the stands in Arthur Ashe Stadium, causing a 49-minute delay to the match. And Bartoli has now given an impassioned plea about the future of tennis amid rising temperatures.<\/p>\n
“I think, once again, it\u2019s just a conversation that we have to look at [in] a slightly longer period,” the 2013 Wimbledon champion said on Sky Sports. Bartoli also made it clear that she thought there would be a problem in tennis tournaments around the world, claiming that Europe couldn’t be ignored.<\/p>\n

So I think if we have to make some change, we have to be really looking into a long period and we have to be brave in the changes we make. Now that said, of course we have to go with steps that are achievable as well. And that might be baby steps but I think it\u2019s very important as well to have a long-term vision.”<\/p>\n Bartoli also spoke after wheelchair and junior matches were suspended early due to the weather on Friday. A banner appeared on the US Open website stating: “Play Update: Due to the rise in temperatures, the Wheelchair matches will need to suspend play at the completion of their current set.
