Liverpool have been told to head to the Netherlands once again and complete two transfers from Eredivisie clubs, similar to how the Reds pounced to land Cody Gakpo despite substantial interest from Manchester United at the time. Gakpo has become a key figure at Anfield since his arrival, before Jurgen Klopp used the summer window to strengthen his midfield.

Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch were all brought in to replace the outgoing Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, though no more reinforcements were signed in defence or attack.

Ex-Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt, who now manages Dutch side ADO Den Haag, has identified two stars of the Eredivisie that the Reds should consider in similar moves to Gakpo for the next transfer window – which opens in January.

“We have a lot of talented players,” Kuyt told BettingSites.co.uk. “Normally, in Holland, the majority of players coming to the Premier League come from Ajax. However, my team Feyenoord are doing quite well lately. They managed to win the league last season. They’re also doing very well this season, however, we shouldn’t underestimate PSV.

JUST IN Mbappe considering Liverpool, Chelsea pulled plug, £215m record bid for Salah[TRANSFERS]

“These two teams have a lot of talent. As far as Feyenoord are concerned, there’s [Lutsharel] Geertruida – he’s just like me back in the day! He’s a very talented player, and I think he’ll definitely make the step to a big team in Europe next season.

“Hopefully Liverpool will look at him as he can play several positions – right back, right centre-back, number six. I think at PSV, Noah Lang is one to watch. A great attacking player, playing off the wing. These two, in my opinion, will be the ones to make the next step in Europe. I hope Liverpool sign at least one!”

We use your sign-up to provide content in ways you’ve consented to and to improve our understanding of you. The iconic red, capped with bold white cuffs and collar really does invoke that classic Liverpool FC style while adding a cool retro touch

Geertruida came through the Feyenoord academy and is now a full Netherlands international, having also been linked with both Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig throughout the summer but a move failed to materialise.

According to Bild, the Dutch club were demanding just over £30m for their star man in negotiations with Leipzig this summer, a similar fee may appeal to Klopp and co mid-season if more defensive cover is deemed necessary.

While Lang, who is capable of playing across the front three, could help ease the blow if Mohamed Salah does depart either before the Saudi Pro League’s transfer deadline of Thursday, September 7, or in future windows as the Middle East continues to test Liverpool’s resolve.

The 24-year-old only joined PSV this summer for a club-record fee of £12.8m but has impressed in Belgium with Gent, perhaps the next natural step could be to join Gakpo in the Premier League with Liverpool.
