Rio Ferdinand has backed the touchline antics of Newcastle assistant manager Jason Tindall, stating he’s ‘here for it’.

The Magpies number two was seen appearing to shush Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp during Sunday’s clash at St James Park, in response to the Reds’ gaffers constant ranting at the fourth official.

Unfortunately, Klopp and Liverpool had the last laugh on Tindall as the visitors fought back from 1-0 down to win the game, despite having Virgil van Dijk sent off just before the half hour mark.

Tindall’s passionate touchline displays have received mixed reactions among football fans, but former England defender Ferdinand has no issue with the way Eddie Howe’s righthand man behaves.

Talking on his FIVE podcast, Ferdinand said: ‘I’m here for it.’

It’s not the first time the two sets of benches have clashed since Howe and his coaching staff’s arrival in the north east.

Last season the FA were forced to investigate after a Newcastle coach threw a water bottle towards the opposition dugout when Liverpool scored a late winner in their win at St James’ Park.

Klopp also aimed a cheeky dig at Tindall earlier this season, in response to new Premier League rules that mean only one member of a team’s coaching staff can stand in the technical area at one time, joking that Newcastle could find that difficult given Tindall’s reputation for taking the spotlight.

Howe’s ally made a name for himself last season by making a habit of shaking opposition manager’s hands at the end of games before the Magpies boss.
