West Bridgford Colts have confirmed that footballer Dylan Rich, who collapsed during the club's FA Youth Cup match with Boston United on Thursday, has tragically passed away.

The tie between West Bridgford and Boston at Regatta Way was abandoned after emergency services were called to the scene at about 7.50pm on Thursday, September 2.

Two ambulances and a fast response car were in attendance as Rich received treatment.

Reports from eyewitnesses at the game in Gamston, Nottinghamshire, indicate that the player was remaining unresponsive after receiving several shocks from a defibrillator.

Attempts were reportedly made to resuscitate the player, who was later rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham by land ambulance.

The club have now released a statement confirming the heartbreaking news of Rich's passing, which reads: "It is with great sadness that, following the events of Thursday evening, we have to announce the tragic passing of Dylan Rich.

"This news has left everyone involved with our club devastated and heartbroken. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his parents Mike & Anna, his sister Lucy & Dylan’s family, friends and teammates.

"The club would like to thank everyone within the Colts and wider football community for the hundreds of heartfelt messages and thoughts that we have received over the past few days.

"The Club will provide all the support it can to those players and club officials impacted by this tragic event, but for now there are no further words possible, and we ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy at this incredibly difficult time."

Clubs from across the non-League scene have been quick to send their condolences to West Bridgford and Rich's family.
