West Ham have reportedly seen their opening bid to sign Rennes star Jeremy Doku rejected by the Ligue 1 club.

Doku has emerged as a target for the Hammers as David Moyes looks to strengthen his offensive options before the end of the transfer window.

The Belgian winger has attracted significant attention for his performances at Roazhon Park, scoring six times in 13 league starts last season, and Doku has already opened his account for the current campaign, netting in Rennes’ clash with Metz last week.

Man City have been repeatedly linked with a move for the 21-year-old, with the club’s interest intensifying after Riyad Mahrez departed the Premier League winners for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli last month.

However, according to a report from Foot Mercato, West Ham have entered the race to sign Doku, with negotiations ongoing after their opening bid was rejected by Bruno Genesio’s side, who are reportedly holding out for a £47m fee to allow him to leave.

City are said to have already agreed personal terms with Doku for a five year deal but the Hammers are hopeful that a promise of more first team football for the youngest could sway his decision.

Meanwhile the club’s long-running pursuit of Ajax star Mohammed Kudus is said to have stalled per the Guardian.

The club’s technical director Tim Steidten flew to Amsterdam on Thursday in a bid to secure a deal for the Ghana international.

Negotiations have proven unsuccessful thus far, with the Hammers said to be unwilling to meet Ajax’s £44million valuation for Kudus, who has two years remaining on his current deal at the club and rejected an extension in April.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked to a move for Kudus this summer, with Brighton having agreed in principle to sign him earlier this month before the deal stalled.

Kudus is keen on a move away from the Eredivisie side, and has agreed personal terms for a move to the London Stadium though the deal is now said to be in major doubt.

David Moyes’ summer signings were on show when his side defeated Chelsea to continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season on Sunday.

James Ward-Prowse contributed a pair of assists on his full debut, with goals from Michail Antonio, Lucas Paqueta and Nayef Aguerd securing a comfortable victory for the hosts, despite the Moroccan being sent off in the second half.
